SCOTTOLANA Huys, 2009
"The genus Scottolana Huys, 2009 was proposed by Por (1967) to reallocate three
species, Sunaristes inopinata Thompson and Scott, 1903, Sunaristes longipes Thompson
and Scott, 1903, and Sunaristes curticaudata Thompson and Scott, 1903. However, the
genus name was unavailable because Por (1967) did not designate a type species and
his generic diagnosis was not informative to express differential morphological characteristics
from other genera (Huys 2009). Huys (2009) proposed and re-established the
generic name as Scottolana Huys, 2009 in accordance with ICZN art. 16.1, with a new
type species, Scottolana geei Mu and Huys, 2004 (ICZN Art. 13.3). To date, the genus
Scottolana accommodates 16 species" (Song et al., 2018 [Thailand; marine]

LONGIPEDIIDAE Sars, 1903 sensu Lang, 1944
The family Longipediidae was initially established by Boeck [15] under the name
“Afdeling Longipedina” as the primary group of Harpacticidae. However, several authors [2,16,17] mistakenly attributed the family Longipediidae to Sars, 1903, causing confusion. However these inaccuracies were pointed out and corrected by Wells
Khodami et al. proposed a new order Canuelloida Khodami, MacArthur, BlancoBercial and Martinez Arbizu, 2017, including Canuellidae Lang, 1944 and Longipediidae
Boeck, 1865; however, this article was retracted by the authors in 2020, due to inaccuracies
in data and problems with data processing. Although the World of Copepods database
still shows the classification of the order Canuelloida based on the withdrawn paper, the
family Longipediidae should be returned to belonging to the order Harpacticoida" (from: Bang et al., 2021)
Longipediinae Boeck, 1865
LONGIPEDIA Claus, 1863
"The taxonomic structure of the genus Longipedia
Claus, 1863 has undergone drastic changes since its
creation to accommodate the type species L. coronata
Claus, 1863, collected in Germany (Helgoland) and
Italy (Naples), and poorly described by Claus in 1863
(for revisions see Lang, 1948: 152–155, and Wells,
1980). In his revision, Wells (1980) recognized 10
valid species within Longipedia, four species incertae
sedis, and one species nomen dubium. Since then, two
valid species (Longipedia andamanica nipponica Itô,
1985, and Longipedia spinulosa Itô, 1981), and one
species incertae sedis (Longipedia sp. Fiers, 1984)
have been added" (from Gomez, 2001). Recently Schizas et al. (2015) described a new taxon, L. gonzalezi from Puerto Rico, and in the same paper they discuss the phylogenetic position of the
Polyarthra (a taxon consisting of the families Longipediidae and Canuellidae, whose affinities with Harpacticoida have been
questioned)
