ORDER CANUELLOIDA

Sahar Khodami, J. Vaun McArthur, Leocadio Blanco-Bercial & Pedro Martinez Arbizu, 2017. Retracted and substituted with POLYARTHRA by He et al.(2023)

LONGIPEDIIDAE Sars, 1903 sensu Lang, 1944

Longipediinae Boeck, 1865

LONGIPEDIA Claus, 1863

"The taxonomic structure of the genus Longipedia Claus, 1863 has undergone drastic changes since its creation to accommodate the type species L. coronata Claus, 1863, collected in Germany (Helgoland) and Italy (Naples), and poorly described by Claus in 1863 (for revisions see Lang, 1948: 152–155, and Wells, 1980). In his revision, Wells (1980) recognized 10 valid species within Longipedia, four species incertae sedis, and one species nomen dubium. Since then, two valid species (Longipedia andamanica nipponica Itô, 1985, and Longipedia spinulosa Itô, 1981), and one species incertae sedis (Longipedia sp. Fiers, 1984) have been added" (from Gomez, 2001). Recently Schizas et al. (2015) described a new taxon, L. gonzalezi from Puerto Rico, and in the same paper they discuss the phylogenetic position of the Polyarthra (a taxon consisting of the families Longipediidae and Canuellidae, whose affinities with Harpacticoida have been questioned)

ARCHEOLOURINIA Gorgosinho & Schizas, 2012 (juinior synonym of Nannomesochra) (belonging to Canthocamptidae according to Karaytug et al., 2021)

  • Archeolourinia shermani Gorgosihno & Schizas, 2012 [Caribbean mesophotic zone]

Recently, "It has been determined that, according to updated modern keys, the recent inclusion of the monotypic genus Archeolourinia Corgosinho & Schizas, 2013 in the Louriniidae Monard, 1927 is not justified since Archeolourinia shermani Corgosinho & Schizas, 2013 does not belong to this family but must be assigned to the genus Nannomesochra within Canthocamptidae. Therefore, Archeolourinia was removed from the family Louriniidae and accepted as junior synonym of Nannomesochra keeping Nannomesochra shermani (Corgosinho & Schizas, 2013) comb. nov. as a valid species of the genus.
