PARACAMPTUS Chappuis, 1929

PESCEUS Özdikmen,2008 nom. nov.

The genus Paracamptus was erected by Casey, 1895 with the type species Paracamptus subtropicus Casey, 1895. Later, the genus Paracamptus was described by Chappuis, 1929 with the type species Canthocamptus schmeili Mrazek, 1893. Thus, the genus Paracamptus Chappuis, 1929 is a junior homonym of the generic name Paracamptus Casey, 1895. Recently, Özdikmen (2008) suggested Pesceus nom. nov. for this genus

  • MARAENOBIOTUS Mrazek, 1893

Maraenobiotus Mrázek, 1893 is a fairly large genus of the family Canthocamptidae Brady, 1880, which currently includes 40 species and subspecies (Walter & Boxshall 2020). The species of Maraenobiotus usually live in cold water, often in moss and in underground biotopes. They are quite common in tundra water bodies (Borutzky 1952).

"The genus Maraenobiotus was established by Mrázek (1893) for the newly described subterranean species from the Czech Republic, M. vejdovskyi Mrázek, 1893 (see Huys 2009)."

"The genus includes 43 accepted species and subspecies, which are distributed in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres (Apostolov 2001, Gurney 1932, Borutzky 1964, Flössner 1988, 1992, Fefilova 2010, Novikov & Sharafutdinova 2020)

"Members of this genus are cosmopolitan; they occur in various habitats in low-temperature waters such as tundra water bodies (Borutzky 1952), moist mosses and hypogean environments throughout different zoogeographic regions" (from Apostolov & Pandourski, 2023)
