PARATHALESTRIS Brady & Robertson, 1873 (syn. Halithalestris Sars G.O., 1905)

The genus Parathalestris Brady & Robertson, 1873 comprises 34 valid species. As the most speciose genus of the Thalestridae, Parathalestris is characterized by the morphological combination of the two-segmented exopod of the antenna, the second segment of the P2 endopod with two inner setae, and both the enp-2 of P3 and P4 with only one inner seta . Species of the genus Parathalestris are benthic forms that mainly inhabit the surface of sediment. Most of the species are associated with macrophytes, but only P. infesta Ho & Hong, 1988 has been formally reported from mine algal fronds . At present, eight species from the West Pacific have been reported, mainly concentrated in eastern Russia, Japan, South Korea and Thailand (from: Wu et al, 2023 )
