DIAPTOMIDAE Baird, 1850

Diaptominae Kiefer, 1932

DIAPTOMUS Westwood, 1836 (syn. Cyclopslumiina (Milne Edwards, 1840); Glaucea Koch, 1844; Kuznetzovia Rylov, 1917; Omethia Templeton, 1838; Pontie Ouchakoff, 1855)

"Diaptomus originally comprised around 200 species of the order Calanoida. During the continued revisions, different genera of Diaptomus were singled out, such as Eudiaptomus, Neutrodiaptomus, Arctodiaptomus, Mixodiaptomus, Eodiaptomrs, and others. According to various sources, the world's fauna includes from 12 [1] to 60 species [2] of Diaptomus. All of them inhabit the Palearctic. The geographic range of the species extends from the tundra to the steppes and deserts. They mainly inhabit temporary water bodies and are much less common in the littoral areas of lakes" (from: Krupa & Barinova, 2015)

    EUDIAPTOMUS Kiefer, 1932

"The genus Eudiaptomus Kiefer, 1932 has a wide distribution in the Holarctic (Borutzky et al., 1991). It comprises 33 species and subspecies worldwide (Walter & Boxshall, 2018a) and eleven species in Europe (Bledzki & Rybak, 2016).

Some (Zoosystematica Rossica, Vol. 31, No. 1, pp. 42-54 43 Podshivalina et al. Eudiaptomus transylvanicus and E. vulgaris of them are widely distributed in Europe, namely E. gracilis (Sars, 1863), E. graciloides (Lilljeborg, 1888), E. vulgaris (Schmeil, 1898) and E. transylvanicus (Daday, 1891), while the others are rare and have limited distribution, i.e. E. arnoldi (Siewerth, 1928), E. drieschi (Poppe et Mrázek, 1895), E. hadzici (Brehm, 1933), E. intermedius (Steuer, 1897), E. padanus (Burckhardt, 1900), E. siewerthi (Smirnov, 1936) and E. zachariasi (Poppe, 1886). Kiefer (1968, 1978) has done the most recent revision of the genus Eudiaptomus" ( Podshivalina et al, 2022) .
