The Ergasilidae is a unique family among cyclopoid copepods in which only post-mated adult females are parasites while the developmental stages from nauplii to copepodites (??) and adult males are free-living organisms.

"The copepod family Ergasilidae Burmeister is one of the most speciose parasitic families from the order Cyclopoida with over 30 genera and 265 species described worldwide, except in Antarctica (Amado et al., 1995; Boxshall & Defaye, 2008)" (from: Narciso, Vieira & Silva, 2022)

    HERPYLLOBIIDAE Hansen, 1892

"Herpyllobiid copepods are highly transformed mesoparasites that infect marine benthic polychaete annelids. The genus Herpyllobius Steenstrup and Lütken, 1861, the most diverse in the family, was known to infect exclusively polychaetes of the family Polynoidae, but it was recently reported also on another family. Species of Herpyllobius have been reported mainly from cold latitudes including Arctic and Antarctic areas, except for two subtropical species"

Herpyllobiidae Hansen, 1892, currently contain six valid genera: Eurysilenium Sars M., 1870; Gottoniella López-González; Bresciani & Conradi, 2006; Herpyllobius Steenstrup & Lütken, 1861; Phallusiella Leigh-Sharpe, 1926; Thylacoides Gravier, 1912 and Blakerius Suarez & Boxshall 2024
