PONTOSTRATOTIDAE Scott A., 1909
According to Huys 2009, the family-group name Pontostratiotidae A. Scott, 1909 (type: Pontostratiotes Brady, 1883) is a senior subjective
synonym of Cerviniopseinae Brotskaya, 1963 (type: Cerviniopsis Sars, 1903) and the former is consequently reinstated
at the subfamilial level.

POECILOSTOMATOIDA
Poecilostomatoida are a suborder of copepods. Although it was previously considered a separate order, recent research showed it to be nested within the Cyclopoida (Khodami et al., 2017), and most families formerly included in Poecilostomatoida are now included in the suborder Ergasilida (Khodami et al., 2019)
CLAUSIDIIDAE Embleton, 1901
"Copepods of the family Clausidiidae Embleton,
1901 represent an early offshoot of the poecilostome
lineage within the order Cyclopoida Burmeister, 1834
(see Khodami et al., 2017). Most clausidiids live in
loose association with marine invertebrate hosts (Huys
& Boxshall, 1991) and species of Clausidium Kossmann, 1874 are recorded exclusively living in association with ghost shrimps (Boxshall & Halsey, 2004)"

copepodid stages are free-swimming and serve for dispersa la,nd then the first
copepodid stage settles on the bottom; the second and subsequent copepodid stages
and adults are loosely associated with benthic animals such as polychaetes, echiurans,
crabs, and mud shrimps. The firs ctopepodid stage was previousl yreferred to
as Sqphirelt abased on its unique morphology and predominance in plankton (Itoh

"Several species of Hemicyclops Boeck, 1873, a genus of
copepods widely distributed in temperate and tropical
regions of the world, are associated with various invertebrates (a sponge, a gastropod, a bivalve, polychaetes and
crustaceans). Other species have been found in burrows
of polychaetes or crustaceans and are suspected to have
associations with such hosts. For still other species,
regarded as free-living, no associations are known. In this
paper a new species of Hemicyclops is reported for the

CLAUSIIDAE Giesbrecht, 1895
"Copepods of the family Clausiidae are
essentially living in symbiosis with the polychaetes (O’Reilly, 1995; Kim, 2001). Although
the name ‘‘Familie Clausiidae’’ appeared in the
19th century (Giesbrecht, 1895: 226), the definition of the family was not formally given until
1955 when Wilson and Illg gave an emended
diagnosis of the Clausiidae. Only six species in
five genera (Clausia, Mesnilia, Rhodinicola,
Seridium, Teredicola) were recognized. Although 12 genera have been ‘‘put forward as
tentative clausiids’’ (O’Reilly, 1995: 57),
through the works of Gooding (1963), Stock
(1968, 1979), and Ho (1984), by the time
O’Reilly (1995) reported a new genus and new
species of clausiid (Megaclausia mirabilis) from
the maldanid polychaetes obtained in the Firth
of Forth off the coast of Scotland, only seven
genera (Clausia, Indoclausia, Mesnilia, Pontoclausia, Pseudoclausia, Rhodinicola, Stockia)
were recognized as valid in the family" (from: Ho & Kim, 2003)
