Parapseudoleptomesochra italica was described by Pesce & Petkovski (1980) as endemic to Italy (anchialine and phreatic habitats of central and southern Apennines); the successive discoveries of the species in ground waters of Switzerland and Romania (Movile cave, Black Sea) complicates its ecological and biogeographical interpretation, but the material from Movile cave, which is in course of redescription, could belong to an undescribed species.
