Boxshall & Jaume (1999) identified two lineages within the order Misophrioida: one consisting of the family Misophriidae Brady, 1878, including seven genera, and the monotipic family Palpophriidae Boxshall & Jaume, 1999; the other family, Speleophriidae Boxshall & Jaume, 1999, including eight genera.
