A new gravity grab for quantitative sampling of the benthic fauna of water-bearing wells is presented. Because of its working principle, the device is similar to corers and to Ekman grabs, but it also shows remarkable features, discussed below. The grab has been tested in a well along the Adriatic coast in the district of Chieti (Abruzzo, central Italy), where samples of sediment have been taken. Preliminary results of the survey are discussed. [Working on It] |
