Subfamily Diosaccinae Sars, 1906


The Miracidae (ex Diosaccidae Sars, 1906) is a predominantly marine family, but containing several freshwater species, most of them in the genus Schizopera.

The family presently includes 479 species and subspecies, three subfamilies and 43 valid genera [DIOSACCINAE: Actopsyllus, Amonardia, Amphiascus, Amphiascopsis, Antiboreodiosaccus, Balucopsylla, Bulbamphiascus, Dactylopodamphiascopsis, Diosaccus, Diosaccopsis, Eoschizopera, Haloschizopera, Helmutkunzia, Ialysus, Metamphiascopsis, Miscegenus, Neomiscegenus, Paradiosaccus, Paramphiascella, Paramphiascoides, Paramphiascopsis, Pararobertsonia, Parialysus, Pholenota, Protopsammotopa, Psammotopa, Pseudamphiascopsis, Pseudodiosaccopsis, Pseudodiosaccus, Rhyncholagena, Robertgurneya, Robertsonia, Schizopera, Schizoperoides, Schizoperopsis, Sinamphiascus, Teissierella, Tydemanella, Typhlamphiascus; STENHELIINAE: Stenhelia, Pseudostenhelia, Cladorostrata, Onychostenhelia, Melima, Anisostenhelia, Beatricella, Hicksia ; MIRACIINAE: Miracia, Oculosetella, Macrosetella, Distioculus ] with representatives for the most part living in sea waters, a few (Stenhelia, Schizopera, Eoschizopera, Schizoperoides, Cladorostrata, Paramphiascella, Amphiascus) including species living also in fresh or brackish waters, as well as in ground waters (Willen, 2000).
